An online auction is simple at heart: the item goes to the person who offers the most when the clock runs out. A few ideas will help you bid wisely.
How bidding works
Every auction listing shows the current price and the time left. To bid, you offer an amount higher than the current price. When the auction ends, the highest bidder wins and completes the purchase.
Set your limit first
Decide the most you are willing to pay before you place a bid, and stick to it. Remember to think about delivery as well as the item price. It is easy to get carried away in the last minutes.
Do your homework
- Search for similar items to see what they usually sell for.
- Read the description and look closely at every photo.
- Check the condition and what is included in the sale.
Bid with intention
A bid is a promise to buy, so only bid on things you really want. Place your bid when you are ready rather than reacting to every change in price.
Keep track of your bids
Open My bids in your account at any time to see everything you have bid on in one place.
If you win
You will be asked to complete the purchase. Pay at checkout, confirm your delivery address and watch the progress of your order in My orders.
